The Friends of William Stafford and the Lake Oswego Public Library present an evening of poetry honoring William Stafford, featuring poets Patty Wixon & Vince Wixon with Tim Barnes as emcee on Tuesday, June 17 at 7:00pm.

Patty and Vince Wixon have lived in Ashland since 1978, and have been poetry editors for Jefferson Public Radio’s Jefferson Monthly for over thirty years. They have served as judges for Oregon Poetry Association state contests, Poetry Out Loud in Rogue Valley schools, and OLLI’s 2013 Poetry Contest. They have made, with Mike Markee, documentary videos on William Stafford and Lawson Inada, and have worked in the William Stafford Archives in Portland for over twenty years. Patty produced ninety-seven CD recordings of Stafford’s readings, lectures, and workshops, and Vince helped edit William Stafford’s selected poems, The Way It Is. He and Paul Merchant also edited Stafford’s Crossing Unmarked Snow, The Answers Are Inside the Mountains for the University of Michigan Press, and Sound of the Ax: Aphorisms & Poems, out this year from the University of Pittsburgh Press. Patty has hosted the William Stafford Birthday Reading at SOU for fourteen years, and was first president of Friends of William Stafford. The Wixons are on the Board of Chautauqua Poets & Writers, which brings outstanding writers to the Rogue Valley, most recently inaugural poet Richard Blanco. Patty is the author of two chapbooks, Side Effects and Airing the Sheets. Vince’s poetry books are Seed, The Square Grove, and Blue Moon. Their poems have been published in anthologies, including Deer Drink the Moon: Poems of Oregon, What the River Brings: Oregon River Poems, and A Ritual to Read Together: Poems in Conversation with William Stafford. Vince’s poem “Tornado Weather” appears in Garrison Keillor’s anthology, Good Poems: American Places. The Wixons received the 2014 Stewart H. Holbrock Literary Legacy Award for their contributions to the literary life in Oregon.
