“Every War Has Two Losers: A Poet’s Meditation on Peace”

We are a nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death. . . .

“We can no longer afford to worship the god of hate or bow before the altar of retaliation. The oceans of history are made turbulent by the ever-rising tides of hate. History is cluttered with the wreckage of nations and individuals that pursued this self-defeating path of hate.”

–Martin Luther King

This film contributes an alternative point of view on the question of war. We are taught that war is inevitable.  William Stafford disagreed.

There will be a brief discussion, led by Tim Barnes (Friends of William Stafford board member), following the film. Members of Portland Fellowship of Reconciliation will meet for a drum circle and brief meeting.

“I was touched by all of the poets and the passion which infuses the intent of the film…get it to the world.”

– Bill Moyers

“Here’s how to count the people ready to do what’s right:  One.  One.  One.…”

– William Stafford
